ABOUT SARAH

 

Sarah Courtney was elected to the Parliament of Tasmania in March 2014, representing the seat of Bass.  After the 2018 election the Premier appointed Sarah to Cabinet where she serves as Minister for Health and Minister for Women.

 

Sarah has also served as Minister for Resources, Minister for Building and Construction, Minister for Primary Industries and Water and Minister for Racing.

Prior to her involvement in Parliamentary service, Sarah worked for almost a decade in the finance industry, including with ING Investment Management, JB Were and ABN AMRO.  Her most recent role was as the Business Development Manager at Regal Funds Management, working with clients in the USA, Asia and Europe.

 

Sarah believes that access to education and training is essential to achieving career aspirations, and so she returned to study, achieving a Master of Wine Technology and Viticulture from the University of Melbourne.  A decade ago she established her Tamar Valley vineyard,

Sarah’s decision to nominate to represent her community was driven by a strong desire to use her skills to deliver a positive future for all Tasmanians. 

In her inaugural speech Sarah said: 

 

“I want to utilise my talents, experience and energy and help Tasmania realise its full potential… My vision for Tasmania is one that capitalises on the opportunity that surrounds us with a government that assists and supports those who innovate and invest… I want Tasmania to be a place that encourages individuals, communities and businesses to be the best they can, always striving for improvement and not settling for mediocrity”.

Sarah is committed to working genuinely and cooperatively with constituents to achieve real and meaningful difference in their lives.  Sarah firmly believes that better outcomes can be achieved for the whole community when stakeholders collaborate.

In addition to her Master of Wine Technology and Viticulture, Sarah also holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (1st class honours) and a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney.

Sarah has previously served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, and Community and Veterans Affairs, Deputy Chair of the Public Accounts Committee and on a number of Joint Select Committees including Future Gaming Markets and Greyhound Racing in Tasmania.

When Sarah has free time her favourite activities include preparing and sharing meals with friends, getting on her road bike and relaxing with her dog Lulu.
